CONTACT US AND EMERGENCY ASSISTANCEThe following page contains information about how to contact us during surgery hours, during an emergency and when the surgery is closed. If your injury or illness is severe, or you have had a serious accident, call 999 and ask for an ambulance. Please click on the appropriate link to jump to the relevant section. Please note that calls from a BT landline are charged at 4.2p (+VAT) per minute. Direct dial number 01308 861938. A doctor is on call for emergencies during the hours in which the doctors are running their surgeries (ie 09:00 to 12:00 and 16:00 to 18:00). Please note that although the surgery is open outside these times, there is no guarantee that a doctor or a nurse will be available. If you are in any doubt, you should dial the emergency services. When making an emergency call, try to remain calm and give as much information as you are able. If using a call box, please have several coins available. If you are unwell in the evening, overnight or at the weekend, contact: The Dorset Emergency Care Service on 0845 600 10 13 . This service is for urgent medical situations – if you, or a member of your family, become ill and you are concerned. It is not for routine enquiries, such as booking an appointment with your GP, repeat prescriptions, test results etc. When you ring the Dorset Emergency Care Service, your call will go through to the call centre in St Leonard’s, Dorset. A trained member of staff will answer the phone and take some details from you. They will pass your details straight over to a doctor who will ring you back to ask you more about the problem and, with you, will decide the best option for you. Depending on the seriousness of your condition, this might be:
NHS Direct can give you general medical information 24 hours a day. Their trained nurses can provide you with expert health advice and reassurance any time of the day or night. Please call them on 08 45 46 47. You can access their website on www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk Visit a local pharmacy (chemist) Your local paper will have details of pharmacies open on Sundays. In case of an accident which you think may require hospital treatment, the nearest Accident & Emergency departments are: Dorset County Hospital, Williams Avenue, Dorchester (access via Damers Road) Yeovil District Hospital, Higher Kingston, Yeovil, Bridport Community Hospital contains a walk-in minor injuries unit which is open from 08.00 to 20.00 7 days a week - but please note that no doctor is present, and that if you require a casualty department, you should go to either Dorchester or Yeovil.
