The Doctors The DoctorsWe are three GPs working together, and with all members of the Primary Healthcare team, to provide the highest level of care for all our patients of which there are approximately 5700. Practice NursingOur Practice Nursing team consists of three qualified Practice Nurses, one full-time and two part-time. We also have two regular Practice Nurses who provide cover for the team in case of absence. Our Practices nurses can advise on, and support, a range of health care including: diabetic and asthma reviews, carrying out ECGs, Spirometry and blood pressure checks, dressings, ear syringing, blood tests, health promotion checks and advice, adult immunisations, travel advice and immunisations, smear testing and minor ailments. The Practice ManagerMr John Skinner, our practice manager is responsible for the efficient administration of the practice and, together with our GPs, the planning of future services. John is supported by Joyce Rendell the Deputy Practice Manager. ReceptionistsWe have a team of receptionists. Our receptionists are here to help you and one of their primary roles is to make emergency and routine appointments for patients to see a doctor or nurse. When making an appointment, a receptionist may ask for some details. They are trained to make certain enquiries and give certain advice to help you as best we can, and to try to make sure that you see the most appropriate person at the surgery. Our receptionists also undertake repeat prescriptions and answer numerous and varied questions. District NursesThe Community Nursing Service provides skilled nursing assessment, care, advice and health education to patients who cannot leave their own homes. They work closely with the GPs and other professionals to ensure that you and your family receive the help and support needed when being nursed in the community. Our District Nurses can be contacted via the Surgery on 0844 477 2444. Please let us know if you are not going to be at home when a visit has been arranged. It is also important to keep any pets under control when a member of the team is due to call. Health VisitorsWe have two Health Visitors, who are specially qualified nurses. They provide information, advice and support to families and co-ordinate child development checks. The Health Visitors have a separate telephone line - Beaminster (01308) 862267. Community MidwifesA small team of midwives is attached to each surgery. The midwives offer antenatal, labour and postnatal care whether you choose to have a hospital or home birth. If you think you are pregnant, you should make an appointment to see a GP who will notify the midwives. |
