Child and Family Health Advice
Your child’s growth and their ongoing development and health are important for you and your family. The websites and resources below offer helpful information and support:
- Healthier Together Website – advice for parents, young people and pregnant women
- Dorset Child Health Information Service (CHIS) – support GP practices, Health Visitors and all health professionals involved with the care of children between the ages of 0 – 19 within Dorset
- Public Health Dorset – Children’s and Families Health Information – Improving health and wellbeing across Dorset, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole
- CAMHS Gateway – CAMHS Dorset – Service to help manage assessments and provide some brief lower level intervention for children and young people up to the age of 18 experiencing problems with their mental health.
- Kooth – Young people aged 11 – 18 who may need to talk to someone about their emotional health and wellbeing, a free service. It is online tool that is accessible from any mobile device.
Childhood Health Checks
Appointments are sent out automatically by the local health authority for routine child health checks.
The first will be with a GP at the Surgery when your baby is around 6 weeks old. You will be sent information about this and asked to make an appointment at your local Clinic or Practice.
You will also be offered routine health reviews for your child, with your Health Visitor, at 6-8 weeks, 8-12 months and 2-2½ years old.
Child Immunisations
Childhood immunisation is an important aspect of your child’s healthcare. In accordance with the NHS Vaccination Schedule, we offer routine childhood immunisations. Immunisations are given by our Practice Nurses or other Healthcare Professionals in accordance with the NHS vaccine schedule.
